Block 105 of 368
This is yet another tester block of some free motion stitching. I was playing with free motion stiches from Leah Day's library for the March block of Span the Distance in Stitches project. I found sea weed flower and just love how funky it feels. It also works well with my preferred motions while free motion quilting - I like gentle waves with the periodic quick turn.
To test the block I pulled out a front and back block that was close in colors to my main block. I also wanted to test using a contrasting thread in a shade of red - this is a lovely deep burgundy I happened to have on the machine. Spray baste the block and start sewing.
Another successful experiment in FMQ!

The quilting is fabulous on both blocks, If I am allowed a favorite, it would be the second one because I really like the black, white and red color combination.
ReplyDeleteThank you! this was a fun one for this 368 project as I DO like both sides a lot - that doesnt always happen. I am also a fan of black white and red, so dramatic.
DeleteJust goes to show how great quilting with beautiful color threads is. I also love the red on the black and white. Very pretty
ReplyDeleteI have kind of gone nuts with quilting with the burgundy thread. Its a new favorite - seems to look amazing on so many colors! Thank you much!
DeleteI too am a sucker for black, white and red. (I even have a project in progress in those colors.) I also like that your blue/green fabric looks like a map. Great work on the FMQ!
ReplyDeleteI love maps as well, this batik is a fun one. Also looks like cobblestones, which can be fabu in the right setting. Thanks so much!
DeleteOh wow, that is striking, on both sides. Great color choices and beautiful stitching!
ReplyDeleteLinda - thanks so much! Love watching your garrison quilt evolve :)
