Block 56 thru 59

This is another play with more traditional piecing.  It revisits one of my favorite shapes with almost limitless design possibility - the 1/2 square triangle.  As you can see precision is critical with these blocks, especially at the 1 inch size.

After chose the fabrics I made the block and added the white fabric to make my correct size of 9" x 9".  Then I did all the quilting in white.  The outline of the ship shapes.  Then free form waves where there would be water, and free form rays where it could be sky.

All and all i am pleased with how it turned out.  It would be a great corner block for a nautical quilt.
